Boston Theater Marathon & Boston Playwrights' Theatre

For four years, I designed and managed the Boston Theater Maraton website. This charity fundraiser involves the entire theatre community in a day-long event featuring 50 new ten-minute plays -- each one presented by a different theatre company! This site had high use by playwrights and theatres, as well as patrons and news media.

These second two images are from the Boston Playwrights' Theatre, where I was the webmaster and staff assistant. I completely redesigned this site to make it easier to navigate and find. As Boston Playwrights' Theatre is both a professional theatre and Boston University's Graduate Playwriting Program, the site had to explain both aspects clearly to a diverse potential audience, including theatre patrons, press, potential grad students, and people who wish to get involved with the theater. I rearranged the site to specifically target those four groups.

The redesign included a universal menu at the top linking to the highlights of each of the four new subsections. This menu was designed to resemble file tabs, clearly indicating which section you are currently navigating and showing how to get to the next section. The entire site is extensively cross-referenced. More patrons, students, press, etc. are finding the site and finding the information that they need. This has resulted in more web ticket transactions, more informed press, more graduate student applications, and more people contacting the theatre.
