Joël
-
Born
in Reims, France and with degrees from Collège Neufchâtel,
École des Beaux Arts, and Colorado State University, Joël
has spent his life pursuing his passions: painting, teaching, and
travel. These pursuits have taken him to Hawaii, California, England,
Japan, France, and Italy as a textile designer, and his paintings
have been exhibited in Tahiti, France, Belgium, Hawaii, Colorado,
and now in Florida where he lives and works with his wife, Charla.
An
educator as well as an artist and designer, Joël has taught
French literature and art at the secondary and college levels at
schools such as Mid-Pacific Institute and Brandeis University. My
painting process is anchored in memories of my culture and artistic
roots in Reims and Paris, as well as my life and travels in the
Pacific and on the Côte dAzur. I am intrigued by these
varied cultures, each with a unique sense of color and form.

Charla
-
Born
in Florida and after only a brief six month stay, Charla recently
returned to the state where she now lives and works with her husband
Joël, after life and travels in France, Belgium, Hawaii, Colorado,
California, and Massachusetts. With degrees from Colorado College,
Colorado State University, and Harvard, Charla has had exhibitions
of her paintings and fibers pieces in Colorado and now Florida.
An educator as well as an artist, Charla divides her time between
painting, teaching art history and studio courses, and textile design.
My work is an examination of moments and a life spent in motion:
thoughts, questions, feelings rendered through time intensive processes,
utilizing the female face and form as both decorative surface and
site for reflection.
