Colorways

Spring palette > < Fall palette

This is an example of creating colorways. I was given a painting of the Fall sweater design on the left, along with swatches of the new Spring palette of colors. My task was to create new colorway for the Spring line. The difficulty in this task was maintaing some of the contrast of the original, while keeping to the client's wishes of keeping things mostly in the green, taupe, and yellow shades.

This involved first scanning the image in to Photoshop. I then separated out the colors into various Photoshop layers. I carefully picked the new Spring colors in Photoshop, making sure the printed colors would match the swatches. Using those colors, I filled in the separated layers of the sweater pattern with pleasing combinations. Using Photoshop layers in this manner makes it very easy to go back in and recolor while losing none of the image quality.
